About Dr. Roz Heiko
The highest good is like water. Water gives life to the ten thousand things and does not strive. It flows in places men reject and so is like the Tao. In dwelling, be close to the land. In meditation, go deep in the heart. In dealing with others, be gentle and kind. In speech, be true. In ruling, be just. In business, be competent. In action, watch the timing. No fight: No blame.
- Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

Recognition
There are many professors with whom I was privileged to work as an undergrad and graduate student. Judith Long Laws, Ph.D. at Cornell University, between pulls on her cigar, suggested that I join the efforts of a group of undergraduates to organize a Rape Crisis Service in Ithaca, which still provides services to rape victims today. Harold Keller, Ph.D., Bernie Braen, Ph.D. and Jane Connolly, Ph.D. at Syracuse University encouraged me to take risks in developing my clinical and consultation skills with families and trauma victims. Dr. Keller in particular was immensely supportive in my career choice to interview at UNC-Chapel Hill in the School Psychology Program as a visiting professor right out of my graduate program. I was a northerner born and bred, and never before had considered living in the Southeast. I now can't imagine a better place to live.
I am so grateful for the gift of having had so many amazing teachers and mentors in my professional life. In clinical hypnosis training, I am honored to have worked with Dr. Reid Wilson and Dr. Joan Murray-Jobsis. They are incredibly gifted in teaching effective hypnosis techniques. In Sandplay™, I am delighted to have worked with Dr. Yvonne Pennington and Dr. Alexander Shaia. Their creativity, respect for clinical boundaries and dedication to serving their clients in the most skillful way have served as an inspiration to me. I'd like to thank my dear colleague and friend Dan Nelson, O.F.M., Ph.D. for his support, humor and many kindnesses along the Sandplay™ path. Another dear friend and colleague, Dr. Vince Pastore, of Mooresville, NC was instrumental in founding the NC Association of Sandplay Therapists. I am grateful that he placed that small ad in the NC Psychology Association newsletter asking for a meeting with "anyone interested in something different called Sandplay™".
No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit.
